Royal Challengers Bangalore is a franchise that usually stays active in the trade window. In the past, they signed players such as KL Rahul and Harshal Patel in the trade window. Ahead of IPL 2024 Auctions, as well, they were quite busy. Mayank Dagar and Cameron Green were the two players whom they traded before the auctions. However, they fell short when it came to a few targets. Had they got these players, the team might have been in better shape. On that note, here, we take a look at two players RCB reportedly targeted in the IPL 2024 Trade Window but could not sign.
1) Shardul Thakur
As per reports, RCB was very much interested in swapping Harshal Patel with Shardul Thakur ahead of the IPL 2024 Auctions. However, the deal did not happen and both these players were released by their respective franchises to the auctions.
One of the philosophies of Andy Flower has been to have a long batting line-up. Harshal Patel could not deliver with the bat for RCB. Hence, it made sense for RCB to go after Shardul. His bowling might have been useful for the franchise in the middle overs. Interestingly, RCB did now show interest in Shardul during the auctions.
2) R Sai Kishore
R Sai Kishore is one of the players RCB reportedly targeted in the IPL 2024 Trade Window but could not sign. RCB has one of the weakest spin attacks in IPL 2024. They released Wanindu Hasaranga and hence, the team is without a leader in the spin attack.
Sai Kishore, despite doing well, has not been getting games on a constant basis in the IPL. It is likely to remain the same in IPL 2024, as well. Therefore, it would have been beneficial for both parties to get involved in a trade. However, for obvious reasons, Gujarat was not ready to strengthen a rival.
