Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has been rested for the ongoing tour of New Zealand. He was last seen plying his trade for the national cricket team in the second semi-final against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
India’s run-scoring machine ended the tournament as the leading run-getter with 296 runs to his name. Overall, he has smashed as many as four half-centuries in the tournament.
On top of that, he also became the leading run-getter in the history of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup. In addition, he has slammed as many as 14 half-centuries, which is the most by any batter in the history of the tournament.

Earlier, Virat Kohli was the captain of the Indian cricket team across all three formats for seven long years. Under his captaincy, Team India might not have won any ICC event but ensured to get the job done while playing overseas.
India scripted history by beating Australia by 2-1 in the Test series in Australia for the first time. This major accomplishment came under Kohli’s captaincy. Besides that, India also won the ODI series in South Africa for the first time as they won the series by 5-1 by beating Proteas.
During his spell as captain, Kohli had backed Washington Sundar as the first choice and indirectly ruled out Ravichandran Ashwin’s chances of return to white-ball cricket.
Kohli once said that Washington Sundar has been doing really well for the team. As a result, the team management can’t have two players of the same discipline playing in one squad.
Today, during the first ODI between India and New Zealand, Washington Sundar played a gem of an innings coming down the order. His batting efforts were so useful that India were able to post 306/7 in 50 overs.
Sundar scored an unbeaten 37 off just 16 balls with the help of 3 fours and 3 sixes. Besides that, he conceded only 35 runs in the 9 overs he bowled for the team, at an economy of 3.90.
