It was way back in 2017 that Washington Sundar made his India debut. Since then, he has not progressed much as a player in the white-ball formats. In Tests, he is more of a backup to R Ashwin and he did do well in the chances he got. That said, going forward, India needs to consider other options for his position. The management need not persist with the same player despite not getting sufficient rewards. Here, we take a look at the list of two options India can try instead of Washington Sundar in the future.

1) Murugan Perumal Abhishek

Murugan Perumal Abhishek is one of the options India can try instead of Washington Sundar in the future. He was a part of the U19 setup recently and did well in a few games.

He might be too raw but this could be the time to start grooming him. Playing a few IPL games could also give him the confidence to be a part of the setup in the future. Hence, he is a part of the list.

2) Tanush Kotian

Tanush Kotian can be an exciting option in this regard. Recently, he played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL and interestingly, he also opened the batting in one of the games. For a couple of years now, across formats, he has been doing well for Mumbai in the domestic tournaments.

Not just white-ball cricket but Tanush can also be the successor for R Ashwin in the red-ball formats. He has the skills and the variations to do well as a right-arm off-spinner. There is a slight mystery element to him which will help him to gain the edge over the batters. As a batter, he is quite accomplished and can do a job in the lower order. Age-wise, as well, he would be the right profile.
