Cameron Green happens to be the only Mumbai Indians overseas cricketer who got a chance in the 2023 ODI World Cup squad. For a team that is hugely successful and has a bright future, it was a surprise. Nevertheless, when it comes to the Indian Team, the maximum representation is from Mumbai Indians. Tilak Varma was also close to getting a spot but had to miss out. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two Mumbai Indians players who surprisingly got dropped for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Dewald Brevis
Dewald Brevis is one of the Mumbai Indians players who surprisingly got dropped for the 2023 ODI World Cup. For the Australia series, Brevis was selected by South Africa. Hence, many felt that he would get a spot in the ODI World Cup squad. However, that was not to be.
South Africa has gone ahead with experience and seems to have a specific strategy of overloading the squad with pacers. Interestingly, the Proteas do not have a genuine all-rounder and in this scenario, someone like Brevis might have added some balance to the setup.
2) Tristan Stubbs
Tristan Stubbs kept wickets for South Africa recently. However, he missed out on the World Cup berth. While it was on the expected lines due to the presence of Quinton de Kock and Heinrich Klaasen, considering the X-Factor he adds, it was a surprise that Stubbs could not make it.
Quinton de Kock will retire from ODIs after the World Cup while Klaasen is not exactly a keeping option for the future. In this regard, Stubbs would be really important for the Proteas, going forward. Therefore, many felt that he might get his chance, also because he has decent experience playing in India. Now, it will be interesting to see the first-choice XI for South Africa in the World Cup.
