For the first time in 2022, fans will witness two Indian teams in action on the same day in two different countries as the Indian red-ball side will be up against Leicestershire in a practice match in England. At the same time in Ireland, India’s T20I team will battle the Irish team in two T20I matches.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI is likely to announce two squads for India’s tour of England and Ireland. The red-ball team will play against England and the counties for practice, while the white-ball squad will be up against Ireland on June 26 and 28, followed by a 3-match ODI series and a 3-match T20I series against the England cricket team.
“A standout feature of the whole arrangement is that the two Indian teams will be in action simultaneously, in two different countries. While the Indian T20I team will be playing Ireland on June 26 and 28, the Indian red-ball team will be involved in the first-class game on those days in Leicester. The whole arrangement is being overseen by Rahul Dravid,” a report by Cricbuzz stated.
Last year 2 Indian teams were in different countries on the same date
Last year also, when the Indian team was on a tour of England, a ‘B’ team traveled to Sri Lanka for the white-ball matches against the islanders. The reason behind that was India reached England early for the World Test Championship Final. They stayed in England for the forthcoming ICC World Test Championship series against the England cricket team.
This year, the Indian cricket team has a very hectic schedule as they will be against the South African cricket team after IPL 2022. After that, they will board flights to Ireland and England, followed by a tour of the US and West Indies. Asia Cup and T20 World Cup will take place after the tours.
