Sunrisers Hyderabad made some interesting moves in the IPL 2024 Auctions. Despite having a settled bowling attack, they spent more than INR 20 Cr for Pat Cummins. The team also made some other good signings in the form of Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga. A few Indian players were also on the target list for SRH. However, the team could not go all the way for these cricketers. Here, we take a look at two Indian pacers SRH targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions.
1) Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur was one of the players who were targeted by SRH. After having released Kartik Tyagi, the team would have wanted a good Indian pacer on the roster. SRH might have also needed a pace-bowling all-rounder, an attribute that they severely lacked in the setup.
Hence, Shardul was on the target list for SRH. However, it appeared that the team had other priority targets. Hence, SRH could not sign the cricketer. CSK got their old player back and he would now improve the pace attack, which was suffering from inexperience last season.
2) Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav is one of the Indian pacers SRH targeted but could not sign in IPL 2024 Auctions. By signing Pat Cummins, SRH reduced the role of Marco Jansen for IPL 2024. This also meant that the team would have to find a new opening bowler. Umran Malik and T Natarajan are better suited for the death while Pat Cummins was mainly hired for his act in the middle overs.
Hence, SRH tried to invest in Umesh Yadav, who would have formed a solid new-ball attack with Bhuvneshwar Kumar. However, Gujarat Titans wanted to setup Umesh with Mohammed Shami. Eventually, it was GT that won the battle. Later in the auctions, SRH signed the likes of Jaydev Unadkat and Akash Singh as options to share the new ball with Bhuvi.
