The biggest tournament in the game of cricket is the ODI World Cup. While that is about international cricket, when it comes to franchise-based leagues, the Indian Premier League stands at the top. Interestingly, there have been a few coaches who won both tournaments. It is a massive feat considering both tournaments are quite different, not to mention, both being conducted in different formats. On that note, here, we take a look at two Head Coaches who won the ODI World Cup and also IPL.

1) Darren Lehmann – Australia (2015) & Deccan Chargers (2009)

Former Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann was the first to join the list. One of his first experiences as a Head Coach was with Deccan Chargers in IPL. In 2009, in South Africa, he led the team to the title win. It was a stunning win because DC had finished with the wooden spoon in the previous season.

After India broke the streak in 2011, the pressure was on Australia to win the ODI WC, especially because it was happen on their home turf. Australia had an experienced squad and being experts in their conditions, Lehmann coached them well to win the trophy. Interestingly, Lehmann has won both of these tournaments as a player, too.

2) Trevor Bayliss – England (2019) & Kolkata Knight Riders (2012 and 2014)

Trevor Bayliss is one of the Head Coaches who won the ODI World Cup and also the IPL. A great tactician in the shorter formats, Bayliss was influential in the setting up of the modern English white-ball squad. They won the World Cup in 2019.

Before that, Bayliss had already proved his credentials as a serial winner. In 2012 and 2014, he helped KKR win the title. This is despite the franchise not having a lot of superstar cricketers. At the moment, Bayliss is the Head Coach of Punjab Kings. He would want to win the IPL with this franchise.
