In the current era, with so many T20 leagues around, a Head Coach is likely to have more than one assignment. Also, depending on the project, a coach could make a decision to focus only on one or more teams. IPL has a long history and we have seen many coaches come and go. Royal Challengers Bangalore have also had many coaches in the past. On that note, here, we take a look at two former RCB Head Coaches who are Head Coaches in the Hundred 2023.

1) Daniel Vettori – Birmingham Phoenix

Daniel Vettori was the captain of RCB once. It was during the transition period that Vettori took the reins of the squad before Virat Kohli stepped in. Later on, Vettori became the Head Coach of the side.

Under the Kiwi, RCB did not enjoy great success. Barring in 2016, in most other editions, RCB endured forgettable outings. Vettori also took some strange calls regarding the retention and release of players. Some of these decisions are still having an impact on the franchise. One of the most notable decisions he made was to release KL Rahul to the mega-auctions.

2) Simon Katich – Manchester Originals

Simon Katich is one of the former RCB Head Coaches who is a Head Coach in the Hundred 2023. Unlike Vettori, Katich did not spend a lot of seasons at RCB. It was for a short time after the COVID and later, he stepped down from the role owing to personal reasons. Sanjay Bangar replaced him at the helm.

Nevertheless, Katich is enjoying his role as a Head Coach. Although he currently does not have a gig in the IPL, if he finds success in a tournament such as the Hundred, a few teams could come knocking on his door. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals are two of the teams that could appoint a new Head Coach before IPL 2024.
