Aside from their gigs in the Indian Premier League, a few Head Coaches also take assignments in other tournaments. While most coaches also tend to get themselves involved with other franchises, very few of them get tied to a national team. However, the ODI World Cup is a different scenario. It happens once in four years. Hence, the best resources need to be in place for the team to do well. In this regard, some IPL Head Coaches have agreed to short-term roles with a few participating nations. Here, we take a look at two current IPL Head Coaches who could also be involved in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) Stephen Fleming (CSK) – New Zealand
It has been confirmed that Stephen Fleming will join Gary Stead in the backroom staff for New Zealand. However, the role is not clear. It is likely to be a consultant or a mentorship role. Nevertheless, it is a major coup for the Kiwis.
Fleming is a serial winner and is coming off a successful IPL campaign. He knows the Indian conditions very well. This will be of excellent use for the former Kiwi captain. His experience in a similar role will also come in handy for the New Zealand team, which will look to go one step further in the 2023 edition.
2) Daniel Vettori (SRH) – Australia [Not Confirmed]
Daniel Vettori is one of the current IPL Head Coaches who could also be involved in the 2023 ODI World Cup. A few months ago, Vettori was the spin bowling coach of Australia. However, there is no news regarding this after the Kiwi took up the role at SRH.
Nevertheless, Australia will need a spin expert, considering the World Cup is happening in India. Vettori has plenty of experience and has been with the likes of Adam Zampa recently. Hence, he could sign up with the Aussies before the ODI WC.
