Gujarat Titans are one of the two new franchises which will take part in IPL from 2022. Based out of Ahmedabad, the Titans will be led by Hardik Pandya. The other prominent players in the team are Rashid Khan, Mohammed Shami and Shubman Gill. Incidentally, back in 2016 and 2017, there was another franchise that was based out of the state. Called Gujarat Lions, the franchise was led by Suresh Raina and included popular players such as Ravindra Jadeja, Dinesh Karthik and Ishan Kishan. It turns out that some players who were part of that franchise will represent Gujarat again. In this article, we take a look at two players who played for Gujarat Lions and will also play for Gujarat Titans.
1) Jason Roy
Jason Roy is one of the players who played for Gujarat Lions and will also play for Gujarat Titans. In 2017, Roy was signed up to open the batting for the Lions. However, the Englishman got only three games to showcase his skills. He could accumulate just 59 runs but his strike rate was good, around 147. Later, he represented outfits such as Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
One of the best signings by Gujarat Titans at the IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions was that of Jason Roy. They got him at his base price of INR 2 Cr. Considering he is an improved player, it was surprising that no other franchise went for him. Roy will most probably open the batting for the Titans alongside Shubman Gill. It is an exciting combination and it needs to be seen as to how it would transpire.
2) Pradeep Sangwan
Pradeep Sangwan was once a well-known name in the Indian domestic circuit. However, after the controversies, his popularity drifted. Nevertheless, he is back to mainstream cricket and is doing well now. Sangwan played for Gujarat Lions during 2016 and 2017. He played seven games for the unit and returned with five wickets. However, his economy was above 10 and hence, he did not find more opportunities.
Gujarat Titans picked the Delhi cricketer at IPL 2022 Mega-Auctions. The franchise has one spot vacant in the XI for an Indian pacer apart from Mohammed Shami. The likes of Yash Dayal and Varun Aaron will also fight for the slot. Hence, Sangwan also has a good chance of getting a few matches.
