Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has presented a cash reward of 1 Crore INR and a customized CSK jersey to the Olympic gold medallist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.

Neeraj Chopra, by winning the gold medal in javelin throw in the recent Tokyo Olympics, became only the second sportsperson ever to win a gold medal for India in individual events in the Olympic Games. The legendary shooter Abhinav Bindra was the first one from India who had pulled off this remarkable feat in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 10 m air rifle category.

Customized CSK jersey of Neeraj Chopra has a special jersey number

The customized jersey that CSK has presented to Neeraj Chopra has the jersey number of 8758. It might seem like an unusual jersey number for any sport, but it’s a very special number because Neeraj’s javelin throw of 87.58 m won him the gold in the Olympics, as no other javelin thrower in the competition was able to achieve a longer distance than that.

CSK had announced a cash reward for Neeraj Chopra right at the time he had won the gold medal, but most of the CSK management was in the UAE for the last two months because of the pre IPL camp and then the IPL. However, now that they have returned having won their 4th IPL title, they organized a special function for Neeraj and presented him the jersey and the cash reward they had announced.

“The entire nation is proud of Neeraj for his stupendous achievement. 87.58 is a number that will forever be etched in Indian sporting history,” CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan said while presenting the reward to Neeraj Chopra.

Neeraj has been presented with many cash and other rewards from several quarters in the last couple of months. Only a day ago, the superstar javelin thrower was presented a special SUV from Anand Mahindra’s company, and he even put a post on his Twitter account thanking Anand Mahindra for the gift.
