Fans on Twitter lashed out at the International Cricket Council (ICC) for asking fans to vote for the “Player of the tournament award of this T20 World Cup 2022. They said that the governing body should decide the winners based on the performance and not on the fans votes.
ICC shortlists 9 players for the Player of the Tournament of the T20 World Cup 2022
As T20 World Cup 2022 is about to conclude, ICC has unveiled the 9 short-listed players who are contenders to win the Player of the Tournament award in the ongoing edition of the marquee event. The governing body has asked fans to vote for their choice of players on the official website.
Virat Kohli, who is the leading run-scorer in the tournament, along with Suryakumar Yadav, who is the third-highest run-getters, are the two players from India that are shortlisted for the award.
From Pakistan, Shadab Khan, who has been brilliant with both bat as well as ball in the ongoing tournament along with Shaheen Afridi, who is the leading wicket-taker for his side along with the former, is nominated for the Player of the Tournament of the T20 World Cup 2022.
Sam Curran, who has taken 10 wickets so far in the tournament along with Jos Buttler and Alex Hales, who have 199 and 211 runs respectively in the tournament so far are the three players from England that have made it into the 9-player list for the award.
Whereas Zimbabwe’s Sikander Raza who is among the top 5 run-getters in the tournament along with having 10 wickets to his name is the only Zimbabwe player who is selected. Wanindu Hasranga, who is the leading wicket-taker in the event with 15 wickets to his name is the last name on the list of players who are contenders to win the Player of the Tournament.

It should be called Fan's Player of the Tournament award and it should be separate from the main prize. A lot of biasness will be involved which would be unfair to the players and bad for the game.
