Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis was not part of the 15-man South Africa’s T20I squad for the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2022 tournament that was held in Australia recently.

Ex-South African skipper and the Director of Cricket South Africa (CSA) Graeme Smith also opened the reason behind Faf’s omission from the squad. Talking about the same, he said Faf is a ‘free agent’.

As a result, it was literally not possible to come to terms with the 37-year-old cricketer. As of now, he is no longer contracted with Cricket South Africa. It will be interesting to see when he will be back into national reckoning.

Faf is deemed as one of the top batsmen in T20 cricket and his stats speak huge volumes. Having played 50 games for the national cricket team, he scored 1,528 runs at an average of 35.53, including 1 century and 10 half-centuries to his name.

Virat Kohli is a caring person, family guy and has lots of value as a person: Faf du Plessis

He will be seen in action for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise. RCB retained their skipper ahead of the mini IPL 2023 auction in Kochi (December 23).

Under his captaincy, RCB finished fourth on the IPL 2022 points table and qualified for the playoffs. After that, they also went on to eliminate Lucknow Super Giants from the competition in the Eliminator.
