The batter suffered a back injury during the fifth game of the Test series against Australia and was ruled out of the ODI series as well. His injury seems to be much worse than expected as it is learned that he will be out of action for 3-6 months.

His absence will come as a major blow for the team as they will lose a quality skipper and a batter. However, as per the latest reports in ESPNCricinfo, it is learned that in his absence either of Sunil Narine or Nitish Rana will be handed the leadership responsibility.
