“Virat Kohli never used to do like this earlier, that is a bit of a concern”, Aakash Chopra reflects on Kohli’s recent form

The form of Virat Kohli has been a constant subplot in every game that India plays now. It has been more than two years that Virat has hit a century. Although he got a good chance to set it right against West Indies at home, Virat has failed even in that. In this article, we take a look at what Aakash Chopra had to say about Virat Kohli’s recent form, which has been disappointing.

Kohli’s recent form has been poor

Although he looked good in the ODI series against South Africa, he was dismal in the ODI tournament against West Indies. In three games, including a duck, Virat made just a total of 26 runs. For a player of his stature, this was a poor return.

Not just this series, Virat has actually not been at his best in recent years. While his form in ODI and T20I cricket has been somewhat okay, his average has dipped considerably in Tests. Considering the importance of the upcoming ICC events for India, the management will want the ex-skipper to return to his best at the earliest.

Aakash Chopra analyses Virat Kohli’s latest dismissal

Meanwhile, on his YouTube show, Aakash Chopra let his thoughts about Virat’s approach in recent games. Keeping Virat’s dismissal in the first T20I encounter against West Indies in context, he said, “Virat Kohli never used to do like this earlier, that if a six is not required, he never used to hit it and scored through singles or fours. He was risk-averse, that he will not play the risky shots at all. That is what Virat was all about but now he is not playing like that and that is a bit of a concern.”

In the first game, India was chasing an achievable total and due to Rohit Sharma‘s brilliant knock, the team was not under much pressure. Yet, Virat Kohli took on Fabian Allen and gave an easy catch to Kieron Pollard. Virat’s knock ended at 17 runs from 13 balls. The next T20I will take place on Friday.
