The next big announcement awaited from IPL is the schedule of the upcoming campaign. The COVID factor, the addition of two new teams and the availability of foreign cricketers will all play a part in it. Now, Cricbuzz has come up with a report that 55 games of IPL 2022 will happen in Mumbai while the remaining matches would take place in the neighbouring city of Pune. There was no update about the playoffs and the final. In this article, we take a look at how Twitter reacted to reports that 55 games in IPL 2022 will be held in Mumbai and the rest in Pune.
55 games in IPL 2022 will be held in Mumbai
The first phase of IPL 2021 was held in Mumbai. Although the travel was limited, teams did have to use air transport to reach different cities. This became an issue as soon COVID cases came up in individual teams. Later, the tournament had to be shifted to UAE.
Keeping the past experience in mind, IPL is expected to come up with a better plan for the forthcoming edition. In line with this, as per reports, a chunk of the league games will be played in Mumbai and the remaining matches will happen in Pune. While Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai will host 55 encounters, the MCA International Stadium in Pune will play host 15 matches. However, this news is pertaining to only the league games. There is no news so far about the playoffs and the final.
Twitter reacts to the latest development
Meanwhile, Twitter was quick to react to the reports that the upcoming edition will largely take place in Maharashtra. While a few reacted to BCCI’s plan, a couple of users hinted that Mumbai Indians could have an unfair advantage. On that note, here is a look at some of the reactions to the latest news:
