The former Sri Lankan allrounder Thisara Perera has picked his T20 XI of all time and has named MS Dhoni the captain of the side, but he has surprisingly not picked a couple of T20 stalwarts like David Warner and Kieron Pollard.
Perera has gone with 6 batsmen, 2 allrounders and 3 bowlers in his XI and out of the 6 batsmen that he has picked, three are the Indian batsmen. The Sri Lankan left-hander has picked Rohit Sharma and Chris Gayle as the openers and Virat Kohli to bat at no. 3.
While some would say that Jos Buttler or David Warner would have been a better bet than Rohit to open in a T20 game based on the overall T20 record of the three batsmen, the fact is that Rohit has scored as many as 4 hundreds in T20 international cricket and has won plenty of crunch games for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
There is never a question mark over the selection of Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli in a T20 XI because Gayle is arguably the greatest T20 batsman of all time and Kohli has got the best record in the T20 internationals, even though he has struggled a little bit in the IPL in the recent times.
The middle-order that Thisara Perera has picked has three of the biggest IPL hitters, AB de Villiers, David Miller and MS Dhoni, all three of whom can hit the ball a country mile and can hit against all types of bowling, whether it’s medium pace, high-end pace or spin.
Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine would be the two specialist spinners in the XI and they will also be the allrounders of the side as both of them can bat a fair bit. Mitchell Starc will spearhead the pace attack and will bat at no. 9. Starc can also bat a bit which means the depth of the batting goes right down till no. 9. Jasprit Bumrah and Shaun Tait will be the remaining two fast bowlers in the side.
Thisara Perera has covered all bases in his XI, from quality openers to a very stable no. 3, a power packed middle order, leg spin and mystery spin, a left arm swing bowler who can bowl in the death as well, a middle overs enforcer who is the best death bowler in the world and an express fast bowler.
