It was a typical India vs Pakistan clash at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The opener of the Group B of the T20 World Cup 2022 went down the wire and saw players of both teams giving their best. But in the end, it was the Indian Cricket Team who held their nerves and sealed the game by 5 wickets.

India thumps Pakistan by 5 wickets to begin their campaign with a win

Opting to bowl first, it was a great start for India as Arshdeep Singh and Bhuvneshwar Kumar extracted swing from the surface and made Pakistan batters look clueless.

After a sensational first over by Bhuvnehwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh removed both the Pakistani openers to leave them tumbling at 15/2. After that Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed smashed half-centuries and brought Pakistan into the game.

A valiant effort by Indian pacers Arshdeep Singh (3/32), Hardik Pandya (3/30), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/22) and Mohammad Shami (1/25) restricted Pakistan to the total of 159 runs.

Chasing the target, it was a dreadful outing for India as they lost both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma for just 4 runs each. To worsen the case more, in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav also perished for 15 runs. Akshar Patel was then promoted up the order but the move didn’t work as a mixup saw him back in the hut to leave India tumbling at 31/4.

But Hardik Pandya (40) and Virat Kohli (82*) stitched a crucial 100-plus run partnership and brought India back into the game. The match went down the wire and India held their nerves better and cliched the game by 5 wickets to bat important 2 points.
