Indian player Prithvi Shaw has opened up about his snub and come back to the team. He said that felt nice to be back in the team and he doesn’t regret missing out for a long as he has set goals which he wants to achieve with the Indian team.

“They wanted to give the person before me a bit longer run,” Prithvi Shaw on missing out from the Indian squad for long

Prithvi Shaw rose to the ranks after he led India U19 to the World Cup win in 2018. Not only he impressed many with his captaincy skills but he also led from the front and scored truckloads of runs. Later that year, he went on to make his Test debut and scored a century in his maiden innings for India.

However, after his eye-catching performance on debut, he missed out on some matches due to an injury he suffered in Australia on the 2018-19 tour and then suffered a ban from the BCCI for failing a drug test.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic break, Shaw’s fortunes took a tumble as he failed drastically in IPL 2020 in UAE and then his problems got compounded by his failures with the moving ball in Australia.

He got a chance in the white-ball team in July 2021, when he was part of a second-string squad that toured Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is. But after that, he hasn’t been part of India’s squad.

Shaw then finally made a comeback into the Indian side after almost 1.5 years as he was selected for the Indian team for the series against New Zealand. He despite having a decent run in the domestic circuit was not getting selected. He last played for India in Sri Lanka in 2021. However, despite making it into the team he didn’t get a chance in playing XI.

Talking about his comeback, Shaw said that team management wanted to longer ropes to other players and that’s why he couldn’t get his chances. While speaking to News 24 Sports, he said:

“I felt really nice coming back into the T20I squad, to meet the players and train with them. I enjoyed that bit. Yes I did not get an opportunity but was given the chance of making a comeback, that mattered. It all depended on them, when to play when not to, but I respected that because probably they wanted to give the person before me a bit longer run. But again, I don’t regret that. I will keep on looking for opportunities because I have a list of goals I want to achieve with the Indian team.”

“Sometimes it just tends to hit you that why I am not in the Indian team,” says Prithvi Shaw

Prithvi Shaw also opened up about his triple hundred in the Ranji Trophy. He further elaborated: “I kept on scoring runs. I felt if that was not enough then I have to score more and more…then I scored 379. It was just my day and felt I will not let go of this opportunity. Sometimes it just tends to hit you that why I am not in the Indian team for so long despite all the efforts…but it’s never too late.”

Shaw will be next seen in action during the IPL 2023. He is likely to play a crucial role for the team in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who will miss out.
