The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League started today with a battle between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. Both teams played under captains. While Shreyas Iyer made his KKR captaincy debut, Ravindra Jadeja led the Chennai Super Kings for the first time.

Iyer won the toss and decided to bowl first in Mumbai. Fans expected the duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway to score big. However, Umesh Yadav dismissed both the batters early. Yadav was in great form tonight.

Speaking to the host broadcasters after picking up two important wickets in the powerplay overs, Yadav was asked if it was the plan for him to bowl three overs in the powerplay.

“I picked up wickets in the Powerplay so I’m very happy. Not really – if I’m doing well and there is some assistance from the surface then I will bowl the extra over. My record in the Powerplay has been good. I try to give wickets to my team in the Powerplay,” the Kolkata Knight Riders speedster replied.

Ravindra Jadeja tried his best but it looked like he was under the pressure of captaincy

Being a captain is a very tough, especially in a tournament like the Indian Premier League, where the franchises expect the players and the captain to perform the best. Ravindra Jadeja struggled with the bat on his captaincy.

He remained not out on 26 runs off 28 balls. While his overall innings was not so entertaining, just like previous captain MS Dhoni, Jadeja did finish the innings with a six, which reminded the fans of the old captain. Jadeja would like to improve, but since it was his first match as CSK captain, even the fans understood that there were some nerves.

Also, there was a confusion between him and Ambati Rayudu, which led to a run out. So, Jadeja could not play his natural game. Here are the Twitter reactions to his performance:
