Veteran New Zealand cricket team batter Ross Taylor called it a day on his international career. He had already announced that the 2022 home season would be his last and that his last international series will be against the Netherlands cricket team at home.
The final match of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series between the New Zealand cricket team and the Netherlands cricket team happened earlier today, where the Blackcaps won comfortably. They secured a 3-0 series win against the Netherlands team.
Speaking of Taylor’s performance in his last international match, the right-handed batter scored 14 runs before handing a catch to Logan van Beek off his own bowling. The Netherlands team gave him a guard of honor.
After the match ended, Taylor gave a special farewell speech where he thanked the people who helped him in his career. Here’s what he had to say:
“I appreciate all the help New Zealand cricket has given me as a 14-year-old to where I am now. I never thought I would play Netherlands but they have a good future ahead and I hope they get a lot more games ahead.”
Ross Taylor took the final catch of the match to end his career on a high
The New Zealand cricket team batted first in the ODI match that happened earlier today. Centuries from Martin Guptill and Will Young powered the New Zealand team to a 333-run total in the first innings.
The Netherlands team tried their best but could only score 218 runs and lost the match by a big margin. Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers for the home team. He took four wickets and destroyed the Netherlands batting lineup.
The last wicket of the match went into Matt Henry’s account as well, as the batter Aryan Dutt handed a catch to Taylor. Here’s how fans on Twitter reacted to Taylor’s last game:
"All the best Ross Taylor. I'm sure you will have the iconic smile on your face like you've had all these years." – Virat Kohli

Ross Taylor is the only player in the world who has played 100 matches in all three international formats – Test, ODI and T20I. He retires today ranked number three in ODIs, behind only Virat Kohli and Babar Azam. #ThanksRosco
