He is a 19-year-old batter from Hyderabad who has played for India U-19s in the past. The rising star made his IPL debut this year for the Mumbai Indians. Verma has been a reliable middle-order option for MI in IPL 2022 so far. He scored a half-century earlier in the tournament.

Tonight, the Mumbai Indians are playing against the Kolkata Knight Riders. MI received an invitation to bat first but they did not get off to a good start. Captain Rohit Sharma departed to the dressing room after scoring three runs off 12 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma ensured that MI made a comeback into the contest. Yadav scored his maiden fifty of IPL 2022, while Verma remained not out on 38 runs off 27 balls. MI finished 161/4 in 20 overs. Commenting after the first innings, Yadav told the host broadcaster:

“We have put a good score on the board. The wicket is still a sticky and I feel there are a lot of runs for our bowlers to defend. After 13 overs, it was an important time-out because we wanted to plan how we wanted to play the next seven overs. It went exactly how we wanted.”
