Ruturaj Gaikwad has become only the third batsman to score 600 runs for CSK in one single season of the IPL. The right-handed opening batsman, who has played only 21 matches in the IPL so far, has been one of the main reasons why CSK has been able to reach the final of IPL 2021.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, so far, has scored 603 runs in the 15 games he has played for CSK this IPL season and is second on the list of the highest run-scorers in the tournament so far. Only KL Rahul with 626 runs is ahead of Ruturaj at the moment.
Ruturaj and Faf du Plessis have been doing the bulk of the scoring for CSK at the top of the order, and it’s the opening partnership of these two which have provided CSK with the base to be consistent in this whole tournament and to win close games as well.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s opening partner Faf du Plessis has been in good form as well
Faf du Plessis is at no. 4 on the list of highest run-scorers in IPL 2021 so far with 547 runs and if he plays well in the final, there is a possibility that he might cross the 600-run mark as well.
Before Ruturaj Gaikwad, two CSK batsmen who have scored 600 runs for the men in yellow in the past are Michael Hussey and Ambati Rayudu. Hussey did it in 2013 when he scored 733 runs for CSK, while Rayudu scored 602 runs in 2018 when he got the opportunity to open the batting in some of the games.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, on the basis of his impressive IPL performance last season and in the first leg of this season, also got a national call up earlier this year and made his debut for India in T20 cricket against Sri Lanka. And after another impressive show in the second leg of IPL 2021, the youngster might get further opportunities to play for India in near future.
