The BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has revealed the story of a hilarious phone call that he had with Rahul Dravid’s son which led him to take the decision of appointing Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

Rahul Dravid has recently taken over as India’s coach from Ravi Shastri and will oversee India’s campaigns in the next two World Cups, the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

Sourav Ganguly was recently present at the Sharjah International Book Fair, where he was asked about the reason of Dravid’s appointment, to which he said that it was actually Dravid’s son who called him and complained that Dravid was being very strict at home. It was then that he asked Dravid to join the Indian team so that he could have some time away from home.

“I got a call from him (Dravid’s son) saying his father was being too strict, and he needed to be taken away. That’s when I told Rahul it was time to join the national team,” Ganguly chuckled.

Ganguly was obviously joking because Dravid was always in line to take over as the next head coach, being the National Cricket Academy (NCA) head for the past few years and also having coached the India U19 and A teams and having developed a good rapport with the upcoming young players.

Although at one point of time, it was being said that Dravid was not quite interested in taking up the national team’s head coach job, and he actually wanted to continue with the job of the NCA head, but he eventually took up the job.
