The 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League got underway on March 26, and the 48th match of the season is currently underway in Maharashtra. Table toppers Gujarat Titans are up against the Punjab Kings tonight. GT captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bat first. Arshdeep Singh bowled a magnificent spell for the Punjab Kings.

Speaking about the first innings of the match, Wriddhiman Saha opened the innings along with Shubman Gill. The two openers looked in good touch, but they could not stitch up a big partnership for the first wicket. Gill was unfortunately run-out courtesy of a brilliant direct hit, while Saha handed a catch to Mayank Agarwal off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling after scoring 21 runs.

Sai Sudharsan was the savior for the Gujarat Titans. He remained not out on 65 runs off 50 balls, hitting five fours and a six. His maiden IPL half-century helped GT finish with 143 runs on the board. Speaking with the host broadcasters after the first innings, Sai said:

“Played alright but it wasn’t the best. Played too many dot balls. It was gripping a little bit for the spinners and at the death, Arshdeep was nailing his yorkers, so it was difficult to get them away. Seems like a good total. 160-165 would be par, so we are a bit short.”

Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah are the only members of an elite club in IPL 2022

As mentioned ahead, Punjab Kings’ uncapped fast bowler Arshdeep Singh was in great touch against the Gujarat Titans. He continued his top form and bowled a spell of 1/36 in four overs. Singh has bowled more than 20 overs in the 2022 IPL season so far.

There have been 40 bowlers who have delivered more than 20 overs this season, and the only two bowlers who have conceded less than five sixes are Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah and PBKS’ Arshdeep.
