As per reports, there would be a Mega Auction before IPL 2025. Retaining an uncapped player comes with a lot of advantages. The team would retain a quality cricketer for a low fee. We see what happened with Yashasvi Jaiswal for Rajasthan Royals. Hence, we might witness other teams also try to follow this strategy. On that note, here, we take a look at one uncapped player each franchise could retain before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction.
Note: This list has been constituted assuming these players would remain uncapped as of the end of 2024.
Chennai Super Kings – Sameer Rizvi
Sameer Rizvi could be the choice if CSK have to retain an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Having hired him for a huge fee, CSK would surely want him for the future. In the middle-order, the squad could be built around the talented Uttar Pradesh batter.
Delhi Capitals – Yash Dhull
Yash Dhull is someone with loads of talent but he is yet to realize his potential. He could get some games in IPL 2024. If he does well, there are chances that he could be retained by the franchise.
Gujarat Titans – Robin Minz
Robin Minz is a special talent and is worthy of retention. He is also a wicket-keeper, which further adds value to the outfit. Kartik Tyagi is another option GT could consider.
Lucknow Super Giants – Mohsin Khan
Mohsin Khan could be the choice if LSG has to retain an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Having seen his performances, it is a surprise if LSG does not retain Mohsin, who is still an uncapped cricketer.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Suyash Sharma
Suyash Sharma is a talented leg-spinner and is set to do well in IPL 2024. He had a solid domestic season and could make his India debut after the World Cup. Hence, KKR has the chance to retain the player.
Mumbai Indians – Akash Madhwal
Akash Madhwal could be the choice if Mumbai Indians have to retain an uncapped player before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Nehal Wadhera is also a good option but having a good death bowler offers more value. Hence, Akash could be the choice for MI.
Punjab Kings – Prabhsimran Singh
Prabhsimran Singh could not make his India debut in the Asian Games. This is good for PBKS as they could retain a good opener who is also a frontline wicket-keeper. He is also a local player and that would further help the franchise.
Rajasthan Royals – Riyan Parag
Riyan Parag has had a fantastic domestic season and he can finish that well with a strong IPL 2024. If he does well, he is likely to be retained as an uncapped cricketer by RR.
Royal Challengers Bangalore – Suyash Prabhudessai
RCB would have an issue when it we talk about the one uncapped player each franchise could retain before the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. There are not many choices for RCB in this regard. Nevertheless, they could retain someone like Suyash, who offers good value in the batting unit.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Abhishek Sharma
He is an all-rounder, can bat at various phases and also has captaincy experience. Hence, SRH could consider retaining the Punjab player. This is assuming he does well in IPL 2024, which would be crucial in the context of his career.
