BCCI on Tuesday (27th December) named a 16-member squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma will lead the team whereas KL Rahul has been sacked as the vice-captain of the team with Hardik Pandya taking over the charge.
Shikhar Dhawan has been dropped from the team with Ishan Kishan getting an opportunity as an opener and a keeper after his double ton in Bangladesh. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah continue to sit out as it seems that they are recovering from the injuries. Whereas Rishabh Pant reportedly needs strength training for his knee and is rested
Virat Kohli along with Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer are the specialist batters in the side with KL Rahul being the second keeper in the team. Alongside Pandya, Washington Sundar and Axar Patel are the two all-rounders in the team.
Mohammad Shami has attained full fitness and is back in the team after missing the Bangladesh tour. He will be form pace battery with young pacers in Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh. Whereas Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav are the two spinners in the team.

First they dropped him from T20Is and now from ODIs too, in ICC tournaments his records are phenomenal and he is dropped from ODIs just before WC 2023

Some new bold steps is shown by selection for SL series like Bhuvi dropped from t20s, Shardul from both, Dhawan from Odis and Hardik getting the captaincy and vice captaincy preference over KL. Not saying it's perfect though.
