It’s fair to say that the visitors have dominated the first two days of the first game as they have put New Zealand under immense pressure. Asked to bat first, they displayed a staggering batting performance and posted a total of 355 runs on the board.
They then came out all gun blazing and bowled well to put New Zealand under pressure. Sri Lanka bowled impeccable lines and lengths and reduced the hosts to 162/5 at stumps on Day 2.
They are inching towards the final of the WTC final and as all they need to do is win this and the second game as well. With the kind of performance they have put, it’s fair to say that they are favourites to win the first Test.
On the other hand, India, who are also fighting for the spot in the final, is under pressure in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia. The visitors have batted staggeringly well and have made the hosts look clueless. If they lose the game, Sri Lanka will have a strong chance to qualify.
