3 brilliant decisions Mumbai Indians have taken in IPL 2022

Mumbai Indians endured their worst campaign in IPL 2022. The five-time champions were able to win just four games in the season. Although they finished with the wooden spoon this edition, Mumbai Indians have used this season to have a stronger squad in future. On that note, in this article, we take a look at three brilliant decisions Mumbai Indians have taken in IPL 2022.

1) Grooming Tilak Varma in the middle-order

Tilak Varma is essentially a top-order batter but Mumbai Indians did a fine job of grooming him in the middle-order. The Hyderabad cricketer did justice to his selection by performing well in IPL 2022. He finished with an aggregate of 397 at a strike rate of 131.

Since MI already has a set opening combination of Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, they needed reinforcements in the middle order. The squad especially needed a left-hander to do the job of smashing the spinners in the middle overs. Tilak has shown that he can do it and this will help MI in the long run.

2) Signing Tristan Stubbs as the replacement for Tymal Mills

The signing of Tristan Stubbs, a wicket-keeper batter, as a replacement for injured pacer Tymal Mills is one of the brilliant decisions Mumbai Indians have taken in IPL 2022. With the hopes for the season gone, Mumbai Indians were quick to realize its situation and focus on the future.

Hence, despite an important pacer getting ruled out, Mumbai went in for the highly-rated batter as a replacement. Stubbs has earned his first call-up to the senior squad and if he does well, Mumbai will have a top performer for the next decade in their squad.

3) Testing Dewald Brevis very early in the tournament

Many Indian stars from the recent U19 World Cup such as Yash Dhull and Rajvardhan Hangargekar did not get a chance this season. However, Dewald Brevis, who was one of the participants in the event, played seven games.

A player performing well in U19 cricket is not sure of doing well in the senior squad. In this context, it was a good decision by Mumbai to throw Dewald early into the limelight. The teenager did well, recording decent scores of 49(25), 31(13), and 29(19) in the tournament. Now that the South African has shown that he belongs to this level, Mumbai can invest more firmly in the cricketer.
