“Selections Are Not In Your Hand”- Jaydev Unadkat Says He Has A New Goal Now

Share the post

Jaydev Unadkat is a left-arm fast bowler from Saurashtra who made a name for himself with his excellent performances in Ranji Trophy. He belongs to an elite group of players who can say that they won the Ranji Trophy championship as captain. Although he has decent numbers in first-class cricket, he has only played one Test match for the Indian cricket team so far.

He received a chance to play Test cricket for the country back in the year 2010 in a match against the South African cricket team. Unadkat did not have much experience then, and he lost his place in the team after just one match.

Since then, Jaydev Unadkat has played white-ball cricket for the Indian cricket team. However, he has not got a single opportunity to showcase his talent in the red-ball arena. Speaking about his new goals in life now, Unadkat said in an interview with ESPNCricinfo:

“At the start of my career, I didn’t really enjoy winning a Ranji game back then like I do now. That was the turning point – I started enjoying every game I played. Selections are not in your hand.”

Will Jaydev Unadkat return to the Indian Test team soon?

The Indian Test cricket team does not have a left-arm fast bowling option at the moment. They tried T Natarajan during the tour of Australia last year. However, he has not played any Test matches since then. It will be good for the Indian cricket team if they use a left-arm fast bowler in the Test team because they will get more variety in the pace-bowling attack.

The selection committee will ultimately decide which player will play for the Indian cricket team. It will be interesting to see which players make the cut when the selectors pick the team for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship series against the Sri Lankan cricket team.

Since the Sri Lankan cricket team has not done so well in Test cricket over the last few years, the selectors can try the players who have not received a chance to play for a long time.
