Ravindra Jadeja is currently in A category of BCCI central contracts

Aakash Chopra is not very impressed with the fact that BCCI has made no changes in the top category of its central contract list and it still includes only three players – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah.

BCCI has 4 category of contracts at the moment which includes A+ category and then A, B and C. The players in A+ category receive 7 crore INR annually from BCCI, while those in A, B and C receive 5, 3 and 1 crore INR respectively. Most of the players are in A, B and C, but Virat, Rohit and Bumrah are the only ones who are in A+ and are receiving 7 crore INR from BCCI.

Aakash Chopra wanted Ravindra Jadeja to be given a promotion in the new contracts

While Aakash Chopra has no problems with Virat, Rohit and Bumrah being in the topmost category of central contracts, what he is not happy about is that Ravindra Jadeja has not been included in that list as well.

In Aakash’s view, Jadeja, at this point of time, is as important for team India as any other player across all formats of the game and it doesn’t make a lot of sense that he hasn’t been given the top contract.

Ravindra Jadeja was in the A category of BCCI’s central contracts the last time the contract list was announced, but since then, the southpaw is probably the most improved cricketer in the world, particularly with the bat and he has now reached a stage where he is not just a bowling allrounder for India, but he is a genuine allrounder who can bowl his full quota of overs and can also bat in top 5.

Aakash Chopra, who was analysing BCCI’s new contracts on his YouTube channel, reckons Jadeja’s improvement and his current stature as a cricketer could have been acknowledged by giving him the top contract, which he totally deserves.

Jadeja is also the top contracted player of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) where he now gets 16 crore INR per season, even more than the CSK captain MS Dhoni who gets 12 crore INR.
