After a player is released for non-performance, usually, his demand in the next auction is likely to reduce. Especially for a foreign cricketer, this is very likely to happen. However, in a few cases, the opposite has happened. A few players were released but they increased their salary in the IPL 2024 Auctions. Here, we take a look at three foreign players whose IPL 2024 salary is more than IPL 2023 despite getting released.

1) Rilee Rossouw

Let alone getting released, Rilee Rossouw was unsold in the first round of the IPL 2024 Auctions. However, he came back under the hammer in the accelerated round and managed to trigger a bidding war.

While Punjab Kings wanted to have him as the backup for their English batters, Delhi Capitals wanted him back on the roster. The bid went high until INR 8 Cr before Delhi Capitals decided that it was enough.

2) Alzarri Joseph

INR 2.4 Cr in IPL 2023 and INR 11.5 Cr in IPL 2024

Alzarri Joseph is one of the foreign players whose IPL 2024 salary is more than IPL 2023 despite getting released. It was a big hike for Alzarri, something that even he might not have expected, mainly because of the inconsistent show that he had put in IPL 2023.

However, RCB was very much interested in bringing him to the Chinnaswamy Stadium. His height and raw pace is something that could help the team do well in the middle-overs.

3) Rovman Powell

INR 2.8 Cr in IPL 2023 and INR 7.4 Cr in IPL 2024

The first player to go under the hammer at IPL 2024 Auctions was Rovman Powell. Rajasthan Royals and KKR were involved in the bidding war, with RR eventually hiring the cricketer.

RR needed someone to come late in the innings and provide the finishing high. Hence, they were desperate to sign the West Indian cricketer.
