Rishabh Pant played a fantastic knock of 96 runs in the first match of the ICC World Test Championship series between the Indian cricket team and the Sri Lankan cricket team. The left-handed batter could have completed his ton, but he got out just four runs short of it.
The first match of the WTC series between the Indian team and the Sri Lankan team started today at 9:30 AM IST with the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium playing host to the five-day match. It is the 1st Test of Rohit Sharma as the new Indian Test captain and the 100th Test of Virat Kohli as the Indian cricketer.
It is a momentous occasion. Both Sharma and Kohli got off to starts but lost their wickets before they could score big. Rishabh Pant came out to bat the number six position and played an incredible innings of 96 runs. It is rare to see a player batting at number six score so many runs on Day 1 especially when the top-order performed well.
But Pant has shown that he is a unique player, and last time when he played a match in Mohali, the crowd started to chant ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’ when he could not live up to the expectations. Today, during his knock of 96 runs, the crowd was chanting ‘Rishabh, Rishabh’.
This thing clearly shows how the rising star of world cricket has turned the tables. His knock lasted 97 balls, where he smashed nine fours and four sixes before Suranga Lakmal rattled his stumps.
