There’s no doubt about the ability of Steve Smith as a batter but when it comes to the shortest format of the game, the right-hander hasn’t quite found his mojo. Although he has been selected in the side for the T20 World Cup 2022, likely, he won’t feature in the playing in the first place.

Whatever opportunities he has got in the T20Is, he hasn’t quite set the stage on fire and has been getting out cheaply. With the likes of Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Tim David on the side, the clouds are hovering over the place of Smith in the side.

Many fans and pundits have criticized Smith as a T20I batter as they feel that he doesn’t fit in the Australian T20 setup with all power hitters on the side. He recently was seen in the action during the warmup game against India and it was yet another disappointing outing for him.

Smith came to bat at No.3 in the case of 187. He looked good, smashing one six but failed to carry on as he was bowled by Yuzvendra Chahal for just 11 runs. His innings disappointed many and made even lash out at him.

Simon Doull, who was commentating, was bold enough to criticize the better on air. He said that he doesn’t know how Steve Smith makes the squad even as a backup.
