England cricket team’s all-rounder Jofra Archer has showered praise on the Test team’s new captain Ben Stokes. In a column for the Daily Mail, Archer gave an update on his recovery and also spoke about the fact that if and when he makes his comeback to Test cricket, he will play under the leadership of Ben.
Archer has not played Test cricket for a while now. The last time he played a Test match for his team, Joe Root was the captain. After England lost the ICC World Test Championship series against West Indies by 0-1, Root stepped down as the captain of the team. Soon after, ECB named Ben Stokes as the new skipper.
Speaking about his injury and return to the England Test team, Jofra Archer acknowledged the change in leadership and wrote about Ben Stokes:
“When I return, it will be under a new captain in Ben Stokes. I played under Stokes’s captaincy against West Indies. He is the best role model we have in English cricket because he always gives his best for the team and it encourages others to try to do that too. Everyone tries to copy him and raise their standards.”
Jofra Archer feels the transition from Joe Root to Ben Stokes will be smooth in England team
Furthermore, Archer mentioned that he does not feel there should not be any problem for the players when there is a transition in the leadership group. Ben Stokes and Joe Root have worked well in the leadership group in the past. So, as per Archer, they will not be any major changes.
It will be interesting to see how Jofra Archer performs upon his return for the England cricket team. The England team will play a lot of Test cricket this year, so if Archer recovers, his presence will help them succeed.
