The Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson seems to be gutted about being overlooked by the Indian selectors again for the 3-match T20I series against New Zealand which will get underway next week.
It’s an Indian team that has been picked with a new captain and a new coach in charge and there have been quite a few new faces in the squad, but Sanju has still missed out, quite surprisingly so because he was very consistent in the last season of the IPL.
Generally in the past, it has been said that Sanju’s inconsistency might have been the reason why the selectors don’t pick him, but the right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman has been very consistent in the recent past and inconsistency can’t be the reason for not picking him anymore.

Interestingly, the tweet that Sanju Samson posted today has three pictures of him saving sixes with his extraordinary flying efforts on the boundary line.
The 26-year-old might have been trying to convey a message to the selectors that he shouldn’t be seen as a reserve wicketkeeping option only, as he is one of the best fielders in India and can be picked in the squad as a specialist batsman as well.

Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan are two first choice wicketkeepers for India in white-ball cricket
The two wicketkeeping preferences for the Indian selectors in white-ball cricket at the moment are Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan. While Pant is a certainty in the XI, Ishan is his understudy, however, there have been times when two of them have played together in the XI.
The last time when Sanju Samson played T20 cricket for India, he had kept wickets in Sri Lanka, but when he had played in Australia last year, he was in the outfield.
Sanju has played plenty of games as a non-wicketkeeper batsman in the IPL as well. It’s probably a bit unfair on him if he is indeed being considered only as a backup wicketkeeper by the Indian selectors.
