Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has remarked that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both got out in the Asia Cup game against Pakistan by hitting bad strokes. Gavaskar continued by saying that it was unnecessary to hit such shots since the needed run rate wasn’t too high to try sixes and there was enough time left.

In the first match of the Asia Cup, played on Sunday, India defeated Pakistan by a score of five wickets. The team took the lead with their bowling and restricted them to a score of 147. Both Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya did an excellent job while bowling, as they each took three and four wickets, respectively. The game seemed to be getting away from Rohit Sharma, as he only managed to score 12 runs off 18 balls. During the match, good fortune smiled upon Virat Kohli, as he was able to play a knock of 35 runs off of 34 balls.

What did Sunil Gavaskar say about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma?

“Today, he had a lot of luck, including drop catches and several inside edges that went so near to the stumps. He had the luck to capitalize on these opportunities. However, he did take advantage of the opportunity and hit some pretty impressive strokes,” Gavaskar was reported as saying to India Today.

“However, given the type of start that he had, one would have thought that he would have gotten somewhere between 60 and 70. After Rohit had already gotten out, he left at the same time. Both of them got out to shots that can’t be forgotten. The asking rate wasn’t 19 or 20 for them to try sixes at that moment, so such shots weren’t essential at that point in time,” Gavaskar added.

During India’s pursuit of the target, the first three wickets fell inside the first half of the innings; nevertheless, Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya put up a partnership that won the match for their team. The two players were instrumental in the team’s victory by five wickets. On Wednesday, India will play their second match against Hong Kong.
