Pakistan cricket team captain Babar Azam has made it a habit to break records in international matches. The right-handed batter has been in top form. He is currently leading his nation in an ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series against the West Indies cricket team at home. Azam scored a hundred in the first match for which he was named the Man of the Match.

Yesterday during the second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League series in Multan, Babar Azam notched up a half-century. He aggregated 77 runs off 93 deliveries, smashing five fours and a six. His inning helped the Pakistan cricket team set a 276-run target for the visitors.

Mohammad Nawaz bowled a dream spell of 4/19 with the ball as the West Indies cricket team got all out for 155 runs and lost the match by 120 runs. Nawaz won the Man of the Match award for his match-winning spell.

Speaking of the record broken by Babar Azam, the Pakistan cricket team captain now owns the world record for the most consecutive fifties by a player in international cricket history. Javed Miandad previously held this record for eight back-to-back fifties, but Babar has surpassed him with nine.

His streak started against Australia in the ICC World Test Championship series. He scored 196, 67 and 55 in his last three Test innings against the Aussies, followed by three fifties in three ODIs against Australia and also one fifty in the one-off T20I against the same opponents. Now, he has scored 103 and 77 in two ODIs against West Indies.

The wicket was double-paced: Babar Azam

Speaking at the post-match presentation after Pakistan’s win last night, Azam said:

“The wicket was double-paced and I thought we were 15-20 runs short. We wanted to build partnerships and unfortunately, there was a run-out. We saved Khushdil in the end as everyone knows what he can do at the back end.”
