Generally, wherever the Indian captain Rohit Sharma bats all around the country, he gets cheered a lot and his dismissals are met with a silence in the Indian stadiums, but the scenario was completely opposite today on the first day of the second test match between India and Sri Lanka, where Rohit Sharma’s dismissal was celebrated by plenty of Indian fans.

The test match is actually being played at M Chinnaswamy stadium which is the home ground of RCB. The RCB fans, who had turned up in large numbers to watch the game, wanted to see Virat Kohli bat and when Rohit got out as the second Indian wicket, the spectators knew the next batsman coming in would be Virat.

So, there was a huge cheer in the stadium as soon as Rohit was caught at the gully position off the bowling of the Sri Lankan left arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya.

Chinnaswamy crowd knew Rohit Sharma’s dismissal will bring Virat Kohli to the crease

Those cheers might not have been necessarily for Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, but for the fact that Virat Kohli was going to bat at Chinnaswamy after a long time and the local fans eagerly wanted to watch India’s former skipper and one of country’s premier test batsman in action.

Virat, before this test match against Sri Lanka, had not played any international game at the Chinnaswamy stadium since the start of the COVID pandemic. Even the IPL, for the last couple of years, have taken place in the UAE and at the select few venues in India, not at Chinnaswamy.

The Bengaluru fans hadn’t witnessed Virat in action for a long, long time and their excitement was understandable, but some of the other Indian fans on Twitter didn’t quite like the fact that the crowd cheered the dismissal of an Indian captain, even though the next batsman coming in was Virat Kohli. Here are some of the Twitter reactions –
