On Friday, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) announced that they would be accepting resumes for the role of National Selectors for the senior men’s team. The BCCI has also announced that the application deadline is Thursday, November 28 at 6 pm IST. Once headed by former India cricketer Chetan Sharma, the board has now disbanded the selection committee. Sunil Joshi (South Zone), Harvinder Singh (Central Zone), and Debashish Mohanty (East Zone) rounded out the committee.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah mentioned the formation of a new selection committee following the board’s AGM in Mumbai earlier this month. He also mentioned the formation of a Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), whose job it would be to manage the national selectors’ appointment process.

Mr. Shah also mentioned that, after a year, the CAC would evaluate the candidates and give their thoughts to the board. Because of this, the stipulation that the departing selection committee choose the teams for the Bangladesh tour was a necessary evil.

India’s elimination from the T20 World Cup semifinals prompts the news.

Since Abey Kuruvilla’s term as a West Zone selector ended in February 2022, the position has been unfilled. In the East Zone, Debasish Mohanty’s term as a selector is coming to a close as well; he was previously a member of the junior team’s selection committee. In December, a new selection committee will take over.

“Candidates who wish to apply for the said position need to fulfil the following criteria for their applications to be considered,” the BCCI said in an official release.

““The candidates should have played a minimum of seven Test matches, 30 First Class matches; or 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches,” the statement added.

One Twitter user tagged Aakash Chopra and asked him to apply for the selector’s position. He told him to apply all the points that he discusses in Aakashvaani and implement them in the selection process.

To which Aakash Chopra replied: “It will be an honour to get this responsibility someday. But not right now. Not for me.”
