Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad has highlighted the reason behind Jasprit Bumrah’s prolonged injury. He said that the pacer has consistently played cricket for a long time, across formats, and his body needed rest, which he didn’t get.
“He is human. At the end of the day, the body gets tired and it demands rest,” Mohammad Amir on Jasprit’s Bumrah prolonged injury
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of cricketing action since September 2022. He last played for India in a T20I against Australia and since then has missed all the games that India has played.
Bumrah did the rounds when a fuss was created related to his selection in the ODI series against Sri Lanka. He originally was not named in the ODI series squad for Sri Lanka and then was added to the team as a late addition after the medical team deemed him fit to play.
The pacer complained about stiffness in his back and governing body decided to keep Bumrah fresh for India’s upcoming important assignments. It was expected that he would make a comeback in the Tests against Australia.

But this hasn’t been the case as he was not named in the squad for the last two Tests and the ODI series against Australia. It is also expected that he will not play in the IPL and the WTC Final, which will be played in June this year in England.
Mohammad Amir rued Bumrah missing so much of cricket due to injury. While speaking to Hindustan Times, he said the pacer didn’t get the desired rest due to continuous cricket. He elaborated:
“What I feel is that Bumrah consistently played cricket for a long time, across formats, and then played in the IPL as well. India too play cricket all around the year. He is human. At the end of the day, the body gets tired and it demands rest.”
“It tends to end careers of cricketers,” Mohammad Amir on the knee and back injuries
Mohammad Amir further went on to say that knee and back injuries are worst for fast bowlers and they tend to end the careers of the players. He elaborated: “I always say back and knee injuries for a bowler are two which I wouldn’t even wish for my enemy. It tends to end the careers of cricketers. I hope he is strong and is recovering well.”
The recent reports suggest that Bumrah is likely to resume bowling by August. The fast bowler went to New Zealand for back surgery and the reports also suggest that his operation was a success. If the reports are to be believed then Bumrah is likely to be back in action around August and therefore possibility can be there that he will play Asia Cup and Cricket World Cup 2023.
