Ishan Kishan made history earlier today in Chattogram as he became the youngest player to smash a double hundred in ODI cricket history. The left-handed batter aggregated 210 runs off 131 deliveries, thereby also creating a new record for the fastest double hundred by a player in ODI cricket history.
Kishan opened the innings with Shikhar Dhawan after Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field first at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium. The Indian team got off to a slow start as they added only 17 runs in the first five overs, with veteran player Dhawan failing to score big.
Number three batter Virat Kohli joined Ishan Kishan in the middle and the duo destroyed the Bangladeshi bowling lineup. Litton Das dropped a catch of Kohli when he was on one, and Kohli made him pay for that by scoring his 44th ODI century.
With this ton, Kohli ended his drought of ODI centuries. His last ODI century came against West Indies back on August 14, 2019, and after more than three years, he celebrated his 44th ODI ton.
Ishan Kishan seemed unstoppable against Bangladesh
Ishan Kishan received an opportunity to play as captain Rohit Sharma was injured and ruled out of the third ODI against Bangladesh. He made the most out of the golden chance by smashing a double century.
Here’s what Kishan said in a chat with the host broadcaster after a 210-run knock in his first ODI match against the Bangladesh cricket team:
“I’m thankful for the opportunity that I got to play and that I got runs for the team. The wicket was too good to bat on. I decided if it was there I was going to go for it. My intent was very clear to go for it.”
