Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets on Wednesday in Mumbai. Chasing 129, RCB lost a few early wickets and hence, the game panned out to be a low-scoring thriller. RCB needed a Dinesh Karthik finish to win the game with a few balls to spare. Faf du Plessis was happy with the way DK played and even had an interesting accolade for the veteran. A low-scoring thriller in Mumbai
After their thumping win in the first game, KKR was expected to trouble RCB, who had lost their first encounter. However, the KKR batters got it tactically wrong, as they attacked too early. In the process, they lost wickets at regular intervals. Eventually, they posted a total of 128 on the board.
Considering RCB had scored 205 in the first game, many felt they would easily get the target. However, that was not to be. After a loss of a few early wickets, RCB had only a few inexperienced batters and Dinesh Karthik at their disposal. The likes of Sherfane Rutherford, David Willey and Shahbaz Ahmed did produce a few vital cameos but DK’s calmness helped RCB cross the line.
Faf heaps praise on Dinesh Karthik’s finish against KKR
RCB was in a nervy situation and a wicket in the last over could have made things tricky. However, DK backed himself and hit a huge six off Andre Russell’s bowling. He ended at 14(7)* but that was enough to take RCB home.
Talking about the knock and DK’s skills at the death, Faf du Plessis said, “DK’s experience helped in the end, cool-calm, runs weren’t never really too far away. He’s probably as cool as MS Dhoni can get in the last five overs.” Coming from a player who has seen MS Dhoni closely, it was indeed great praise for the Tamil Nadu cricketer.
