With just a day remaining for the game, India reportedly has suffered a blow as pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa. As per the reports in PTI, the fast bowler twisted his ankle during the practice session ahead of the first ODI.

Chahar’s injury isn’t suspected to be a serious one but management has decided to rest him as he’s on the standby list of the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.

Speaking to PTI, a BCCI source said: ”Deepak has sustained a twisted ankle but it’s not too serious. However, a few days of rest might be advisable. So it will be team management’s call if they would like to risk Deepak as he is in the T20 World Cup standby list. In any case, if there is a requirement there, it would be a priority.”

Reports also suggest that his injury might pave way for Mohammad Shami to be included in India’s squad for the World Cup as a replacement of Jasprit Bumrah.
