Pakistan Cricket Board’s Chairman Ramiz Raja has disclosed that the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly invited him to watch the Indian Premier League Final on a couple of occasions. However, Raja declined the invitation thinking what the fans of Pakistan would think after seeing the chairman of their cricket board at the league of another board.
Speaking at a press conference at the Gaddafi Stadium, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ramiz Raja disclosed some details about his relationship with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly.
Here’s what Raja said:
“On two different occasions, he invited me to IPL; once in Dubai and once this year. I was confused about whether or not to attend. I thought if I went there, fans will not spare me. There might be a cricketing sense to it, yes, but right now, there are some cracks that need to be filled because it’s a political game.”
Ramiz Raja also spoke about Pakistan hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
Many fans of the cricket world would know that the Pakistan Cricket Board has secured the rights to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Pakistan is the defending champions of that mega-event, and the top eight teams of the world will likely reach Pakistan to compete against each other for the mega prize in 2025.
Ramiz Raja said that the fans living in Pakistan deserve such big events. It has been a considerable period since Pakistan played host to an ICC event. Pakistan has hosted a series against the Australian cricket team, West Indies cricket team, and the Sri Lankan cricket team.
Later this year, the England cricket team is scheduled to visit Pakistan for a seven-match T20I series. The Men in Green will be keen to perform well in front of their home fans. Earlier this year, Australia defeated Pakistan 1-0 in a three-match Test series on Pakistan’s home soil.
