“I would go with Pant, not just because…”, Ravi Shastri reveals whether India should pick Rishabh Pant in the semi final

Team India have performed very well in the T20 World Cup 2022 so far. They have already qualified for the semi-finals as the toppers of the Group 2 table and will face England at the Adelaide Oval on 10th November. However, head coach Rahul Dravid is still in a dilemma about a major spot selection, i.e, the wicketkeeper choice. Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant have both had their fair share of chances in the tournament so far but none of them have been able to leave an impression as such.

In the meanwhile, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has come up with his decision and he thinks that Rishabh Pant should be picked for the match against England without any second thoughts.

“He has done very well against England. He recently won a match on his own against England in ODI. I would go with Pant, not just because he played here, but because of the X-factor angle, he can bring to the semi-final,” Ravi Shastri said on Star Sports.

Many might think that Ravi Shastri is biased about Rishabh Pant as he was his first-choice keeper during his reign as the Indian head coach but it is actually a very well thought statement. While it is true that Dinesh Karthik has worked on his finishing skills and he was brilliant last year, he has seemingly lost his touch again. And in this scenario, Rishabh Pant would be a much more logical addition as he has the ability to score centuries and turn the tables in any match.

Ravi Shastri added that the match is in Adelaide. The short square boundaries call for a left-handed batsman who can disrupt the English bowling attack. Having too many right-handers makes any batting lineup monotonous and predictable. India need a left-hander in your team, who can be dangerous and win you a game in the back overs even if you have lost 3 or 4 wickets at the top, Shastri said.
