KL Rahul will play his third IPL season as a captain in 2022. However, the Lucknow Super Giants skipper recently stated that this is the first time in his career that he has got an opportunity to build a team from the scratch. Rahul previously captained the Punjab Kings, but he was assigned the team’s reins when there were mini-auctions.
The Lucknow Super Giants joined the IPL ahead of the 2022 edition of the league, and they roped in KL Rahul as their new captain. According to reports, the Punjab Kings wanted to retain the wicket-keeper batter, but he declined an offer and switched to Lucknow.
Rahul and the rest of the team management built a fresh squad for the Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the new season. The likes of Manish Pandey, Krunal Pandya, Evin Lewis, Quinton de Kock, Deepak Hooda, Jason Holder, Marcus Stoinis, Ravi Bishnoi and Dushmantha Chameera are members of the Lucknow Super Giants squad.
The Lucknow-based franchise will open their IPL 2022 campaign against the Gujarat Titans on March 28. It will be exciting to see how the Super Giants perform in their first season.
KL Rahul shared the new experiences he has had after joining Lucknow Super Giants
In a chat with Red Bull Clubhouse, KL Rahul shared the details of the new experiences he has had with the Lucknow Super Giants so far.
“I have never sat in meetings discussing each and every player,” said KL Rahul. “We grew up watching the IPL, so we associate teams with players: CSK with MS Dhoni, RCB with Virat Kohli. They have left a huge impact on the city, the franchise. That’s what really excited me,” he added.
While Rahul is from Karnataka, like Dhoni and Kohli, he wants to build a successful franchise from another state. Uttar Pradesh has never had an IPL franchise before so if Rahul can lead the team to glory, he will gain a massive fan following in the state.
