Former Indian cricket team opener Aakash Chopra has opined that he does not understand the reason why the Gujarat Titans have given so many chances to Matthew Wade. The veteran Australian cricket team wicket-keeper batter has failed to make an impact with the willow in this year’s IPL so far. Playing his first IPL season since 2011, Wade has failed to replicate his T20 World Cup 2021 heroics.
Still, the Gujarat Titans have given him a lot of chances in the playing XI. Many fans have expressed their displeasure over the fact that the Ahmedabad-based franchise has ignored youngsters like Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sai Sudharsan and given the number three position to Wade.
Speaking on his official YouTube channel ahead of Gujarat Titans’ final league game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Aakash Chopra said:
“I don’t understand what they are doing with Matthew Wade at No. 3. Sai Sudharsan was doing well at that position. If you want to play four overseas, then why not play Lockie Ferguson too? Just this obsession of wanting Wade to do well hasn’t worked out.”
Apart from the form of Matthew Wade, Aakash Chopra feels Gujarat Titans have one more small problem
In the same video, Aakash Chopra added that the table-toppers Gujarat Titans do not have many problems in their team. However, he mentioned that the Ahmedabad-based franchise would want their captain Hardik Pandya to score some runs before the most important phase of the season gets underway.
“GT would hope that Hardik finds form and goes into the playoffs with some confidence,” concluded Chopra.
It will be interesting to see how the Gujarat Titans perform in their final league game against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB will be under enormous pressure because they need to win this match to keep their IPL 2022 playoffs hopes alive.
