“I am quite confused”, Harsha Bhogle reacts to the wicket-keeper selections in the Indian team

Team India are currently taking on Bangladesh in the first match of their 3-match ODI series that kicked off today. All the three matches of this series will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium. Team India are coming into this match after a disappointing 1-0 series defeat against New Zealand away from home. They will definitely try to mend things with a win over Bangladesh. However, the way things are right now, it might not turn out in favor of the Blues.

One of the biggest conundrums that Team India faced even before the match started was the team selection – more precisely, the Wicketkeeper selection. Team India has many able wicket keepers who are dying for a spot in the team – Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and so on. Usually, the debate is between Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson and this debate had been going on in the media for a long time after Sanju Samson got snubbed from the Indian squad. However, in the most shocking way, Team India used none of them in their playing XI against Bangladesh in the first match. They went with KL Rahul as the wicketkeeper instead.

Well some might say that it is a wise decision as it allows India to play an extra batsman or all rounder but this is definitely not a stable strategy that will last for long. And we definitely need stable decision ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle was equally amused by this decision as well. He tweeted, “So, Rishabh has been released and Samson is in India! And back to KL Rahul to keep wickets when keepers are waiting for an opportunity and Ishan Kishan is there! I am quite confused.”

This selection might come back to haunt India in this match itself.
