Veteran Indian off-spinner R Ashwin has set the stage on fire in the ongoing second Test against India in Delhi. He has removed the backbone of the Australian batting lineup and has given his side a perfect start.
Ashwin removed Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith in the same over to reduce Australia from 91/3 to 91/3. The off-spinner first trapped the No.1 Test better in LBW. He bowled an off-break delivery from round the wicket that drifted away and then spun back into the right-hander.
Labuschagne pressed forward on the defensive push and got beaten on the inside edge. The ball struck in front of the middle and was crashing into the middle stump. If this was not enough, R Ashwin then removed Steve Smith for the duck to further jolt Australia.
He again came from round the wicket and bowled the slider that kept going with the angle. Smith played for the turn as he pressed forward. The ball held its angle, flicked the outside edge and Srikar Bharat completed a superb catch. He removed No.2 and No.2 batter in the span of just three balls.
With the wicket of Labuschagne, Ashwin also completed 700 FC wickets. He’s just one wicket away from becoming the second Indian bowler to take 100 wickets against Australia.
